"He drunk all the feelings."

Last week friends were making many noticings and connections between The Color Monster and In my Heart. This morning at our meeting we got both books out together and went page by page making comparisons and pointing out similarities.

"What’s happening with the color monster?"

G.B: "He’s all mixed up!"

C.B: "He drunk all the feelings."

J.B: "Looks like he’s having a hard time like me…I always have a hard time."

Both books started with the same feeling...

C.B: Happy!

J.B: Yellow!

"This page uses the same color but it's different feelings."

L.N: It’s the same color!

"What color do you think brave might be?"

G.B: "Orange."

S.Z: "I think brave is red and blue like Spider-Man, he’s brave."

Angry

G.B: "That means like you’re so angry you can’t say anything."

"What can you do to help yourself calm down?"

B.B: "Take a deep breath."

C.B: "Or go to the quiet area!"

Fear & Calm

G.B: "Fear means run away like a mouse because you’re scared."

"What color do you think calm should be?"

G.T: "Green!"

"Remember what feeling this is?"

G.B: "Heavy!"

S.Z: "Sometimes when I’m mad, my heart beats so fast (thumping chest)."

L.B: "When I get yelled at, it makes sadness and I cry. "

G.B: "Purple makes me feel very silly!"

We revisited our friend's idea of making our own color jars!
We noticed in the book that it looked like the jars were made out of cardboard, but that wasn't quite good enough! We wanted real glass jars!
"How will we color them?"
"Colored water."
"Crayon."
"Tape and marker?"
"Sharpie?"
"Paint!"
"Yesss! Paint!"
We found jars and matched the amount of jars to the number of feelings identified. Then we washed them to prepare for painting.

Stay tuned!
