E-This is the BEST day of our lives! We got to pet chickens!
But, let’s start at the beginning...
We knew that this was a mail day to send our letter full of questions to the Chicken Family, but first there were a few more questions to add.
J-Where do the chickens go potty?
N-Do chickens hibernate?
Our Postal Worker M. delivered our letter to the mailbox by our friendly Lemcke’s.
Around the block, we went to tell the chickens that we had mailed them a letter.
To our surprise, the Chicken Dad (aka Jeremy) was out to greet us!
He told us that he had grown up on a farm that had 200 chickens.
He also knew about our class through his mom, Norma.
She knew about our blog and told Chicken Mom (aka Jenny) to be looking out for her mail.
Much to our delight, we were invited to pet one of the hens. We thought it funny that only one name had been given to all four, Karen:). They are all going to get their own names soon.
Mr. Jeremy said that the hens lay around 30 eggs per week and offered us some.
We accepted one as we weren’t sure what to do with too many.
However, once we returned to school it was decided to open it!
So as not to waste it, we also whipped it up, cooked a tiny omelet and had a taste.
Everyone got a turn with an old fashioned hand beater.
Finally, we all had a bite (some were tiny but still got thumbs ups).
W. liked the egg so much, he ate all the leftovers!
Miss Jenny hopes to arrange a safely distanced meeting to answer our questions in the near future.
Maybe she’ll have some recipes for us to try and bring us more eggs!
