Cracking Coconuts!

The St. Louis Brass Quintet came to our school this morning! They played a few familiar tunes and shared some information about each of their instruments. On the very last song we got the chance to stand up and move to the beat!

How many people are in a quintet?
"5"
"Why do you have shells with you?"
"Where did they make the instruments and how long did it take?"
These were a few of the questions asked by friends in the Maple Room.

Ms. T.C. came to our class today to share her knowledge about coconuts!
She told us the the mysterious "peanut, pumpkin, squash" that we found in the forest is actually what a coconut comes in!
Can you believe what was inside?

She shared a little about growing up on an island and the kind of foods they ate.
One of those foods were coconuts!
She showed us how to open the coconut to see what was inside.
Friends had many questions for her!

"Where does the coconut milk come from?"
"Can we grow coconuts?"
They grow in warm places, like Florida.
"What about in Texas?"
"Can we make coconut milk some day?"

Looks like we might have a little investigating to do!
