"They're all pumpkins, they just grew differently."

This morning we took another look at our "pumpkins".
"They're all pumpkins, they just grew differently."
"Maybe they just haven't gotten orange yet. When it gets bigger, it will turn orange."
"I saw white pumpkins at the pumpkin patch and they were already big!"

So we went to the kitchen to do some investigating...
"I think first we should skin it!"

"It feels wet."
We discovered that it was orange inside!
Friends noticed the difference in seed size and the very slight difference in color.
"That orange is darker."
We also noticed similarities in smell and texture.
We diced to cook the whole thing! We cooked the seeds the same as the pumpkin seeds.
"I wonder if they will taste the same."
"That one is harder."
"It's yellow like a lemon!"
"And it's stringy!"
"It's like spaghetti!"
"It's good!"

Secrets out...A pumpkin is a squash and what we made is butternut and spaghetti squash. Friends really liked the seeds! Some friends were not so sure about the squash. Many friends asked for more spaghetti squash!
