Maple Authors

This morning friends broke the tie with another vote. Bella won with 8 votes!
"Eight is the biggest!"

Many friends also worked very hard creating books. Topics included bugs, rainbows, love, shapes, and of course Halloween!

After lunch, all of the authors read their books to the friends.

Another Day at the Forest!

This morning, while walking to the forest our class noticed a stop sign at the corner. They shared with friends the reason for having stop signs, as well as the letters in the word, STOP.

When we made it to the forest we noticed it looked a little different. Some tree's were cut down and the paths were much more clear.

One of our tadpoles didn't make it over the weekend:( We talked about it today and agreed to say our goodbye's after lunch. We also came up with possible names for our other tadpole. These names had a three way tie. We will vote again tomorrow, stay tuned!

Where do tadpoles come from?

This morning a group of friends created "decorations" for our tadpoles. We started with a discussion about where tadpoles come from...
"The pet store."
"The ocean!"
"Maybe underground with the snails."
"Big frogs make little frogs and little frogs make tadpoles."
"Let's look it up!"
That's just what we did and we found out that frogs lay eggs and the tadpoles come from the eggs then turn into frogs!
What other animals lay eggs?

First, we drew out our plans. What would make the tadpoles feel at home?
"I'm drawing plants!"
"I think they would like flowers."
"I want it to say hello because I think that would make them happy."
We decided to combine our ideas into one piece of work.
"We need to measure the tank to see how big it needs to be."
"Let's paint it blueish greenish because that will remind them of water."

"Frogs float on lily pads, I think that would make them happy."

Potato, Patato

This morning we took another look at the potatoes that have been in our room.
"That red one looks like a turkey leg!"
"I think it's the heart of a pig."
"I think it's a root from a a flower dug up from the rainforest!"

"Wait! It's a red mashed potato! I see a little opening to the inside!"
We googled "red potato" images.
Does it look the same?
"No!"
Let's cut them open and see what the inside is like!
"It's orange!"
"It smells like butter mashed potatoes!"
"It smells sweet!"
"Let's look up sweet potato."
"It looks the same, it's a sweet potato!"
How do you grow a potato?
"They need water and sun to grow."
"Let's put them by the window!"

"Look at the Light"

Today a small group went to the light atelier to explore with the materials in the space.

Some friends used loose materials

While others explored their fascinations with flashlights.
