Our work started early this morning by bringing in the materials from Maggie's car.
The group started by constructing the frame of the planter. They screwed together metal poles with the help of Shannon and Robert. The children stood on chairs to reach the top pieces.
A lot of measuring was required to move forward in our work. The children put their counting and number recognition skills to work. A decision was made to make 2 big boxes and 2 smaller boxes. This will help give the plants what they need to grow. More light!
As the boards were measured and marked, Charlotte's dad used his saw to cut the boards.
"It's loud!" -Elyse
Many children agreed! However, it cut the boards very quickly!
Maggie's mom showed us how the boxes were going to look and the children helped place the pieces together. Maggie, Topher, and Ava numbered our boards so we knew which boards went to each box.
Then we began to assemble. The children marked where screws needed to go on the boards and then drilled holes. They placed screws in each hole and then drilled the boards together to make a planter box!
We have our 4 boxes assembled!
Tomorrow we will work on our art designs for the boxes in preparation for help from more parents on Friday!
