Teddy Bear Sunflowers!

One of our wonderful families gave us packets of seeds to plant before winter break. Friends have been asking, when are we going to plant those seeds? This morning, a small group went to a space in the kid's kitchen to do some planting.

"We should plant these."
"My mom wants a pumpkin garden in our backyard."
"My grandma has a garden at her house."
How many packets of seeds do we have?
"We have 5 packets."
How many flower pots do we have?
"We have 4, so we need to add another pot so we can put a seed in each pot."
After discussing the kinds of seeds we had, friends decided they wanted to plant the vegetable seeds out in the garden and the sunflower seeds in the flower pot. Today we planted Teddy Bear Sunflower seeds!

We brought the flower pot back to our classroom to watch it grow.(Hopefully)

Growing Lima Beans

Thank You to the Statesmen Silver Strings Orchestra for coming to our school this morning to perform for us. We enjoyed seeing the different instruments while listening to some of our favorite tunes!

Back in our classroom, everyone had the chance to plant lima beans!
We wrapped the lima beans in a wet paper towel then placed them in a baggie with our name on it. You can find the baggies taped to the windows in Maple Room, where friends told us they will get the most sunlight. Friends are very curious to see if the lima beans will grow, especially since we didn't use any soil!

March showers bring April flowers?

We've heard "Rain, rain go away..." being sung by friends the past two days. We miss the sun but that's no reason not to put on some boots and enjoy the mud!

Our original intention was to find worms for our Alfalfa Sprout aquarium, but we just couldn't resist the mud and puddles!

Before Spring Break, we put some things in water. Some friends thought they would become flowers, others had differing theories. Today some friends observed the growth that occurred last week.
"The little ones look like onions and smell like onions, so I think they must be onions!"

"I think the big ones are plants because they're green."
"The little ones look like grass."
"I think the big ones are blooming into flowers!"

Back to the Forest

Maple Room friends were very happy to be back from break and reuniting with each other this morning! We were even happier to make it to the forest before the rain came!

"Something has to be living inside of there."
"What do you think it is?"
"Maybe worms!"
"I think something is down there!"

"I'm making a boat, want to help me?"
 "These look like vegetables."
"Yeah, they kind of remind me of the asparagus we made."

 "Look at what I found."
"I wonder what it could be?"
"Maybe there is a potato inside."
Guess we have some investigating to do!
