Expression Through Wire

This morning friends introduced themselves to Ms. Audrey, who will also be help in the Maple and Birch Room!
A group of friends continued to express their excitement and anticipation of our butterfly coming out of its chrysalis through the language of wire.

"My chrysalis is hanging. Okay, now I just have to wait for the butterfly to come out!"
"The brown one is a moth, not a butterfly. The blue one is but it's not a Monarch like ours."
"Let's look up what kind this one is!"

"Why are there oranges in there?"
I replied, "I was hoping the butterfly likes to eat oranges."
"I don't think they do."
"Maybe we need to look it up."
"Butterflies like cantaloupe. I went to the zoo and the butterflies were eating cantaloupe."

 "Look! They like watermelon too!"
We also spent some time on the playscape...

"Look At All These Colors"

Today friends worked with colored vinegar, baking soda, and eye droppers!

"I'm going to mix some colors in there."
"Watch what will happen!"

"It's like a volcano!"
"This is so cool!"

"Look at all these colors!"

"It smells like Easter Eggs."
"It's so bubbly!"

"The colors are so pretty!"

Creating a Chrysalis

This morning a group of friends took some time observing our chrysalis.
"It's going to become a monarch butterfly!"
"How long do you think it will take?"

As we observed, we used wire to create what saw . Some friends created the caterpillar before it created its chrysalis.
"I'm going to make a caterpillar."
"How do I make it connect?"
"Do we just twist it?"

"I made a little chrysalis by twisting up the wire into a little ball."

 "It's a chrysalis hanging from a branch!"
"How do you know how to use those cutters?"
"Can you show me how?"
"How do you make an eyeball?"
"Do butterflies have two eyes?"
