A Color A Day

This morning we created a shade of green! Half way through, friends figured out that because we started with so much blue, we needed a bigger jar!
"It's not green yet, we need more yellow."
"Maybe let's add some white."

"I think I like this color!"
 We wrote out our recipe.
"The recipe is for if we want to make the color again."

The name ideas were Green Broccoli, Seaweed, Swamp, and Green Lantern.
And the winner of our class vote was....Green Lantern!

A Multitude of Measurements!

This morning a group of friends created their own paint color!
They were asked, "What color do you want to make a shade of?"
Of course each friend chose a different color. After some debate, they agreed on purple.
"How do you make purple?"
"Red and Blue!"
We used measuring spoons and created a recipe so that we can make the same purple again!
Since we only had a 1/2 tablespoon, friends had to do the math.
As we added and mixed, we tested the color.
"We're going to need a lot more to fill the jar!"

"Do we want a light shade of purple or a dark shade?"
"Lighter!"
"White will make it lighter and black will make a darker shade, so we need to add white!"
We added a half teaspoon at a time until finally one friend said, "It's not changing that much, let's add eight more!"

After completing our paint color, we needed to name it. There were some wonderful ideas: Purple Heart, Purple Sunset, Purple Tulip, Violet, Purple Rain, and Purplicious. After a class vote, it was decided that Purplicious will be the name of this paint color. Stay tuned for the beautiful colors to come!

We also continued or work from yesterday but with gak!

Some friends stretched it all the way across the room!
"We need the tape measure!"
 "It's ummm...I don't know."
"I see a one, a six, and a zero."
"It's 160!"
"160 what?"
"160 gaks."

How Long Will It Stretch?

A question was posed to our friends today working with the floam. “How long will it stretch before it breaks?” Friends used rulers to measure their work. They asked for a tape measure when they realized the rulers weren’t long enough. They used pencils and pens to record their work.  We also celebrated a friends birthday with a dance party after lunch!

A Maple Morning

This morning we built a house and an RV in the Collaboratory, continued our building in the classroom, created with kinetic sand, and finished up our self portrait!
