Naming More Emotions

“When we name an emotion or experience, it doesn’t give that emotion or experience more power, it gives US more power.” -Brené Brown

This morning as friends arrived to school, they did a check in at their feelings jars. This will become part of our daily routine. At our meeting we took a look at how everyone was feeling and a few friends decided that their feelings had already changed so they moved their stick to a new jar. Some friends weren’t sure where to put their sticks because they had a different feeling.
“We need an all mixed up jar for when we feel all the feelings!”
“It should be rainbow like the color monster.”
We went on to talk about other feelings that we may need to add jars for like excited, shy, surprised, and disappointed.
“Disappointed is like when someone is making you hurt.” C.B
“I think the color of disappointment is golden.” G.T
“What other colors have we not used?”
“Turquoise!” E.M
“We haven’t used brown.”
“We don’t have peach or white!” C.D
“What about violet or indigo?” I.B
We painted our “all mixed up” jar and it turned out beautiful! Then we moved on to disappointed. The tube of paint said golden just as G.T had suggested however, we were all a little disappointed at the color that came out of the tube which made it perfect!

“This is what disappointed might look like.”
