Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Ms. Lauren had some bananas that were getting brown at her house and brought them in to ask what we could make with them. During small capers last week a child in orange room made banana bread out of magnets. We brought that idea to the pink room and they were excited to try out a new recipe! We also had leftover applesauce from snack and wondered if we could use that in our banana bread.

This plan will also help support our new investigation with dough. What is made of dough? "Cookies, pizza, bread.." Is there a difference between dough and batter? Brynn says, "dough is thicker."

Will we need to make dough or batter for banana bread? It is a bread isn't it?

We looked up a recipe and wrote down our ingredients.

A small group went to the kitchen atelier.

They mashed the bananas.

Worked on mixing the wet ingredients.

Added eggs

And mashed bananas.

Sifted the dry ingredients. Topher said he has used a "SNIFTER" at his grandma's house.

Added the dry ingredients to the wet.

Mixed in the most important part, chocolate chips!

The smell brought so many people in to see what we were baking! "It smells so good!!"

It's hard to wait for it to cool.

The group brought the banana bread back to share with anyone who wanted a piece!

It got wonderful reviews from children and adults!!

The group shared that we made BATTER for the banana bread. We are a little confused. Why did we make batter when we know that we need dough for bread? More investigating to come!
