Flashlight Party

We celebrated Halloween with a Capers, pajama, flashlight, dance party!

"His name is John"

Yesterday, a teacher from Birch brought us in a new friend she found in the garden knowing our love for bugs!  We placed it in our aquarium but not everyone was in the room when our new friend arrived. Today friends wanted to take a closer look and draw pictures of their new tomato caterpillar!

"Is it a boy?"

"Yes and his name is John."

"I found him in the book."

"What is it?"

"A caterpillar."

"I can't wait to see it turn to a butterfly!"

"Where did he come from?"

"They brought him out the garden because he's not good for the garden."

Why not?

"Because he's probably going to eat the food in our garden."

"If it's not a regular caterpillar will it turn into a butterfly?"

"No, it will turn into a tomato. That's what they like to eat."

"I think it will turn into a moth."

Pizza Sauce

We were excited to take a trip to the kitchen this morning to get started on our pizza sauce! 

First we washed.

 Then we put them in the blender.

"The tomatoes are gone."

 "It's looking like a smoothie!"

We added sugar, olive oil, vinegar, and spices.

 "Smell this!"

"It's garlic. We have that at my house!"

 Lastly, we cooked it all on the stove.

We can't wait to make, and most importantly EAT our pizzas!

Changes in the Forest

We noticed so many changes in the Forest this morning! Many of the trees and branches had been cleaned up and more of a path was cleared.

"Look at all this mulch!"

"Whoa the trees are all gone!" 

 

Garden to Table

A few days ago, friends wandered into the garden while we were playing outside, as they often do. They found some red tomatoes and a few returning friends recalled, "Remember when we made that pizza with tomatoes last year?! Should we make something again?" We brought the tomatoes back into the Maple Room to share with our friends and everyone was excited to share their ideas! 

"Let's make spaghetti!"

"Let's make pizza."

"I think we should make tomato soup and grilled cheese to go with it!"

Today we voted and of course, pizza was the winner because who can resist pizza?

 "What part of the pizza uses tomatoes?" 

"The sauce!"

We did some research and found a recipe. We can't wait to head to the kitchen next week!
