The candy shop
Some employees took orders, some answered phones, and some took money. The other children bought the treats!
Augie, along with a small group, built a machine to make Chihuly candy. The children recalled the glass blowing video and designed a candy machine that made different shapes. Augie is turning the pole that has a piece of candy on the end, making different shapes. He then sets it to the side to cool and harden.

Help from Mr. Johnny
Mr. Johnny let us know that we needed to make the triangles a different size.
These were a better fit.
We did not have any wood wide enough for the rest of the roof in the classroom, so a small group went to find more wood in the atelier. Will and Olivia measured the wood for Mr. Johnny and Will told him that it is 81. Mr. Johnny said that is probably too big, so the next step will be to cut more wood!
Mr. Johnny will be in to help us again next week!
Building the roof
After receiving a hinge from Charlotte's dad and referring to their roof design, the children started to build the roof of the birdhouse. They began by measuring and marking the wood that needed to be cut.
Olivia clamped the piece to the table before sawing the wood.
The children cut the wood into 2 triangles.
Then, the triangles were hammered onto the house. The other pieces did not work as planned, and we could not figure out how to add the hinge. This was a problem. The children began to brainstorm other ideas.
They decided that we needed to call in an expert. Mr. Johnny helped us drill the holes for the house, so he might be able to help with the roof! A small group wrote Mr. Johnny a letter asking for help.
Miles gave him the letter at lunch.
Mr. Johnny said that he would be happy to help, and would come in the next day!
